of the Special Care Unit is to provide expert acute/critical and
compassionate care to Oncology/Hematology patients and families
while supporting education and research. The approach is
interdisciplinary and family-centered. A pharmacist is available on
the unit 16 hours per day and dieticians and social workers are
very involved in patient care. The relatively long length of stay
on the unit and readmissions for post-transplant care enable nurses
to establish rewarding relationships with patients and
families.Patient PopulationThe unit serves adult and pediatric
oncology/hematology patients receiving chemotherapy or high dose
chemotherapy, with or without bone marrow/stem cell transplant, and
undergoing complex medication and blood product administration. For
adults there is a BMT APP on the unit 24 hours for needed medical
orders and oversight of the treatment plan. Internal Medicine
manages the General Oncology patient population with a
Hematology/Oncology Academic Consult. These patients are
co-managed. The Pediatric Hematology/Oncology team or the Pediatric
BMT team manages pediatric

Nursing Assistant:Perform delegated patient activities as assigned
by licensed nursing personnel for the achievement of patient`s plan
of care.Required Qualifications:--- Minimum of 18 years of age
required.--- High school education or equivalent required.---
Possesses a Certified Nursing Assistant certification in the state
of Nebraska.--- Demonstrated effective communication skills
required.--- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required, must
be from an American Heart Association (AHA) endorsed program
(effective for new hires starting January 1, 2023 or
later).Preferred Qualifications:--- Knowledge of computer data
entry and word processing preferred.--- Basic knowledge of medical
terminology preferred.Nursing Assistant:Perform delegated patient
activities as assigned by licensed nursing personnel for the
achievement of patient`s plan of care.Required Qualifications:---
Minimum of 18 years of age required.--- High school education or
equivalent required.--- Six months experience in patient care
required or must be enrolled in nursing program.--- Demonstrated
effective communication skills required.------ Basic Life Support
(BLS) certification required, must be from an American Heart
