Job Description:
Summary GENERAL SUMMARY: The Cardiovascular Specialties RN is
responsible for identifying patient needs and priorities for care
through assessment, planning care based on patient needs, and
consistent with the patients expectation of treatment. Executes
therapeutic physician or nursing-initiated interventions, and
evaluates the patients response to care and the attainment progress
toward patient outcomes. The Cardiovascular Specialties RN assists
in all procedures performed in the Invasive Cardiology Labs.
Through documentation and verbal communication, coordinates care
between other professional disciplines as needed. Performs
Unit-based activities which contribute to a positive work and
professional environment. PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. *Commits to
the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core
values. 2. *Initiates assessment based on the patients presenting
problems or needs and the physicians medical diagnosis including
collecting key information from patient, laboratory, and other
medical reports, determining which standards of care and practice
apply to the patients situation and documenting assessment and
clinical judgments and related information according to Bryan
Medical Center procedures. 3. *Works closely with other care
providers to complete the initial and ongoing assessments of
patients and to provide clinical assistance as needed;
re-prioritizes care based on new information. 4. *Performs
therapeutic interventions as ordered by the physician with
consideration given to knowledge gained from the initial and
ongoing assessment of the patient and consistent with population
specific standards of care and practice, Invasive Cardiology
procedures, demonstrated competencies, and with consideration given
to risk management and infection control practices. 5. *Documents
care based on standards of care and practice and/or clinical
priorities for documentation including: a. Assessment and ongoing
assessment findings; b. Updated clinical priorities for
documentation; c. Therapeutic nursing interventions with specific
attention to patient teaching and patients response to
interventions and progress towards outcomes are noted. 6.
*Initiates communication with peers and other members of the health
care team about clinical priorities for care. 7. *Initiates
problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective
work relationships with peers. 8. *Determines the impact of Cath
Lab and nursing interventions on the patients condition and
recognizes the patients progress towards meeting desires outcomes.
9. *Initiates problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to
foster effective work relationships with peers. 10. *Provides
direct care to patients as assigned based on caseload acuity, needs
and the qualifications and competencies of self and of other staff
members. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from a School of
Nursing with current Registered Nurse licensure from the State of
Nebraska or approved compact state of residence as defined by the
Nebraska Nurse Practice Act. Minimum of one (1) year experience as
a Critical Care or Medical/Surgical nurse or equivalent required.
Previous experience in hemodynamic monitoring skills and ECG
interpretative skills preferred. OTHER CREDENTIALS /
CERTIFICATIONS: Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification or certification
within six (6) months of hire required.
