Job Description:

Primary Function: The Instructional Designer Intern (ID) works collaboratively with faculty, Subject Matter Experts (SME), and other University staff to create innovative and engaging learning experiences that enrich student-learning outcomes based on sound pedagogical practices.

As part of the Design and Development team, the intern will assist with multiple curriculum development projects on various timelines from development to delivery and will work under the supervision of D&D team leaders who will guide and support the intern. The D&D team is ultimately responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of online and residential courses, curriculum products, and supplemental learning materials, but the intern will have the opportunity to learn and practice skills needed to be an Instructional Designer.

Essential Functions:

  • Support the course design and development process from planning to implementation, following sound instructional design principles and other curriculum design standards, such as Quality Matters (QM) while adhering to University and departmental processes.
  • Follow course development schedules.
  • Communicate frequently and effectively with project stakeholders to ensure goals and objectives are being met.
    • Engage with faculty members to support them in evaluating and adopting effective instructional strategies, innovative learning strategies, technology-based instructional tools and resources that enhance their courses to encourage meaningful student engagement and interactivity. Identify and/or develop interactive learning objects and supplemental materials that enhance student learning outcomes and the student experience.
    • Other duties as assigned.
      Position Qualifications:
      • Must be an active student pursuing either a Bachelor s or Master s degree in Curriculum Development, Instructional Design, Education, or other related field OR a graduate interested in the practice of Curriculum Development, Instructional Design, Education, or other related field
      • Intermediate proficiency in the design and development of training or academic courses and/or the development of technology-based instructional materials required.
      • Intermediate knowledge of adult learning principles and various instructional strategies with ability to identify and implement an effective combination of learning approaches.
        Skills & Abilities

        • Intermediate proficiency using content authoring and/or learning object development tools (e.g., Adobe Suite, Camtasia Studio, Articulate, etc.)
        • Basic understanding of learning management systems e.g. Blackboard, , Moodle, Canvas, etc.).
        • Excellent customer service and relationship-building abilities with strong oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills.
        • Comfortable making informal and formal presentations to a group.
        • Flexible to meet changing priorities and achieve business objectives.
        • Understanding of project management principles and practices.
        • Strong problem solving skills and show attention to detail, with excellent demonstrated organizational skills and the ability to multitask.
        • Ability to write effective copy, instructional text, and audio/video scripts.
          Computer Skills:
          • Intermediate proficiency using content authoring and/or learning object development tools (e.g., Adobe Suite, Camtasia Studio, Articulate, etc.)
          • Basic understanding of learning management systems (e.g. Blackboard, Moodle, Canvas, etc.).
          • General office and internet skills. Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, etc.
