Job Description:
Position Purpose/SummaryThe Construction Technician is committed
to providing the highest quality service to the communities,
customers, and employees we serve by performing outside plant
construction, plant troubleshooting and plant engineering
duties.Primary Duties & ResponsibilitiesPerform plant maintenance,
trouble shooting, repair, and engineering duties.Repair and
maintain plant facilities for cut overs and projects, including but
not limited to, cable, pedestals, drops, protectors, etc.Compile
and update all required paperwork, i.e., maps, printouts, customer
master records, (for special circuit installations, trouble tickets
& pair changes) fiber optic records, material usage forms, cable
inventory updates, time sheets, safety training, job descriptions,
performance objectives, etc. Perform plant construction (copper,
coax & fiber optic; buried and aerial) using lawn plow, trencher,
backhoe, boring machine, bucket truck, etc., following company
policies and procedures.Install pedestals, warning signs, DLCs,
PONS, nodes, power supplies, NIDS and any other appurtenances
related to telephone and CATV plant.Splice and bond copper twisted
pair cable, fiber optic cable, and coax cable.Trouble-shoot
telephone, DSL, and fiber optic issues.Locate and mark underground
copper, coax and fiber optic cables, update maps.Perform or
coordinate repairs of construction equipment.Perform routine
service on standby generators and cable inventory.Understanding and
strictly adhering to the Company's Customer Proprietary Network
Information (CPNI) policy while appropriately maintaining the
confidentiality of customer records.Understanding how all
departments contribute to the success of the organization and
referring customers and employees to the appropriate department to
best fulfill their needs.Building and maintaining a good rapport
and cooperative relationship with customers and co-workers while
taking ownership of responsibilities and being accountable for
his/her own actions.Being an advocate for Company programs and
special events while taking initiative to participate and
volunteering readily when opportunities arise.Performing all other
duties and responsibilities assigned.Knowledge, Abilities, & Skills
for SuccessEffectively communicate in a positive and professional
manner through written and verbal communications in all interfaces
with customers/public, fellow employees, and vendorsAbility to work
as a leader and team member as well as exert initiative to work
independently to reach a goalAbility to operate heavy equipment for
buried plantThorough knowledge of outside plant practices and
proceduresAbility to draw, use, and understand maps, staking
sheets, computer printouts, blueprints and other drawings and
diagramsAbility to use and operate various hand tools and cable TV
equipment, including but not limited to, cable locator, measuring
wheel, electronic foot meter, volt ohm meter and various fault
finding test equipmentAbility to operate construction equipment,
including but not limited to, lawn plow, trencher, cable plow,
backhoe, directional boring machine, bucket truck, etc. Knowledge
of and the ability to comply with CPNI regulations and
proceduresAbility to embrace change in the workplace while
encouraging others to seek innovative approaches and the ability to
function effectively as a team playerProficient computer skills
(including Microsoft Office suite) and the ability to adapt and
learn as programs and processes change.QualificationsAt a minimum,
the Construction Technician must have high school diploma or
equivalent. Additionally, education and/or experience in telephone
